How to generate a SQL database backup

In order to avoid losing configurations, components and pages already registered in a database, it is good practice to perform backups / copies of the database through SQL Management Studio.

What is a backup?

Backup is a security copy of archieves, in case that you lose a database for example, you will have a way restore it.

How to generate a backup…

1. Open the SQL Management Studio;
2. Fill the information of server name, authentication, user and password;

Server name

In the server name field, fill in the data referring to where the server is located.

Authentication type

Select Windows authentication if you use a Local database or SQL authentication if you already have an instance installed


This field will only be enabled if you use SQL authentication. Inform the user “sa”.


This field will only be enabled if you use SQL authentication. Inform the password of the “sa” user.


If the database is LOCALDB type, inform (localdb)\MSSQLLocalDB in server name, the Authentication type field choose the Windows Authentication


If it is a SQLSERVER database type, fill with the information created for that server.

3. Click connect;
4. Click on Database and select the G-Electrical database folder;

The G-Electrical database by default has the name:

  • GE2018R1
  • 5. Click with the right button on your database > Tasks > Backup;

    No banco de dados, selecionar o banco que se deseja realizar o backup/cópia.

    Backup type

    By default, it is defined as complete.


    The destination is where the backup file will be saved. By default it is saved in C: \ Users \ UserName \, but can be changed by deleting this location and adding a new one.

    7. Click add;
    8. Click the suspension points symbol;

    9. Define a location to save the backup file and click OK;

    10. Click OK again to confirm and start backup.

    Pronto, dessa maneira foi realizado um backup do banco de dados do G-Electrical que estará localizado no caminho informado no campo Destino. Com esse arquivo é possível realizar a restauração do banco de dados em um novo servidor SQL.

    In this way, a backup of the G-Electrical database will be done, which will be located in the path entered in the Destination field. With this file you can restore the database to a new SQL server.
